Knaresborough to Otley Folk Club via Harrogate and the Washburn Valley

In Knaresborough we stayed at Ebor Mount Guest House, an interesting very old building with comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast, especially because we had a choice including kippers.

Kippers

An exotic experience for Olivier and a welcome change from the interminable Full English Breakfast.

Wednesday was a bit of a rest day with quite a short ride and no big hills. So we stopped for a couple of hours relaxation at the elegant Turkish Baths in Harrogate. Luckily Wednesday morning is a mixed session at the baths so any cyclist following this route can take advantage as long as they have a swimsuit.

Agatha Christie may have spent time here during her famous disappearance. Highly recommended.

Then a steady climb out of Harrogate along another dead straight road and down into the Washburn Valley again, this time further south via a small road that had one or two short steep uphills but a lot of visual compensations.

Washburn Valley, not as well known as the more remote parts of West Yorkshire.

And downhill into Otley for the Folk Club at Korks Wine Bar. Another good evening. The locals all had some fatigue as the previous weekend had been the Otley Folk Festival but still some excellent music.

Excellent performance space at Korks Wine Bar, who also do a nice meal if you need to eat before the music starts. Olivier was pleased with his lamb, having been eyeing up the living ones on the way.
